Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Anesthesiology with a focus on Pediatric Anesthesiology. ABA certification with subspecialty certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pennsylvania licensure are required. This leadership role will be an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Rank will be commensurate with experience. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree.
Teaching responsibilities may include developing systems for mentoring faculty and staff in the division to promote productive, rewarding careers and academic advancement.
Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of clinical anesthesia and medical direction in the Operating Rooms and other anesthetizing locations at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The Division leads multiple robust clinical programs, including fetal-maternal anesthesia, acute and chronic pain, neuroanesthesia, and proton therapy. With support from the Anesthesia Resource Center, the Division staffs over 40 care sites daily across various locations, including the main operating room, the special delivery unit, oncology clinic, gastroenterology suite, sedation unit, interventional radiology, MRI, proton therapy, and three ambulatory surgery centers in addition to the Philadelphia Campus and King of Prussia Campus. In total, the Division provides over 45,000 anesthetics annually.
The major emphasis of the Academic Clinician track is ongoing teaching and clinical excellence, and a sustained record of professionalism. The expectation is that there will be a chosen area of concentration that include, but are not limited to, education, clinical operations, community service, quality and safety, health equity, diversity and inclusion, health policy, and global health to name a few. Evidence of academic productivity and leadership in projects related to an area of focus will be required. We seek a board-certified pediatric anesthesiology expert to lead one of the nation's largest and most academically productive pediatric anesthesia divisions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex, multi-site division with diverse clinical programs. Key responsibilities include overseeing personnel, managing clinical operations, and leading the division in achieving the Department's tripartite mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
The Division of General Anesthesiology is comprised of over 60 faculty with diverse clinical, educational, and scholarly interests, as well as 30 certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), 11 fellows, and over 14 staff members.
The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and works closely with the other Division Chiefs, the Associate Chairs, and the Vice Chair in the Department.
The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts in the Division, provide career development and mentoring for all Division faculty and fellows, and conduct annual performance reviews for Division faculty.
