Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of one or more of the six pillars of the center related to Violence Prevention research, with special consideration given to researchers conducting research related to gun violence. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree. Have demonstrated excellent track record in securing federal grants and have developed a clear line of violence prevention research.
Teaching responsibilities may include didactic sessions with graduate students, medical fellows and residents, and postdoctoral fellows as well as formal lecture opportunities within the department.
Clinical responsibilities may include patient care depending on the candidate, including but not limited to outpatient treatment, outpatient consultations, inpatient consultations, and inpatient attending responsibilities.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include maintaining an active research laboratory, supervising students and research staff, and mentoring postdoctoral fellows. Additional responsibilities include writing grants, reports, and manuscripts, developing collaborative and independent research programs, and coordinating federally-funded grant efforts with local, national, and international collaborators.
Successful applicants will have evidence of federal funding and demonstrated success in fundamental and/or translational research relevant to violence prevention. The primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics or the department in the Perelman School of Medicine that provides the best scientific fit. The University of Pennsylvania is a vibrant team-science-oriented environment with elite pediatric-based research collaborators. The Perelman School of Medicine, with world-class medical, biological, and population scientists, is part of an integrated campus including the Schools of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, School of Social Policy and Practice, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, and the Center of Public Health Initiatives, which provide the ideal setting for cross-disciplinary collaboration and impactful research.
CHOP is a world-class leader in the delivery of pediatric care, research, and training pediatric leaders of the future.
The Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based programs to reduce the exposure to and impact of violence on patients and families across clinical and community settings. CVP uses a trauma-informed, community-based participatory research approach which is rooted in racial equity and social justice. The Center consists of six pillars: (1) Aggression and Bullying Prevention; (2) Community Violence & Trauma Support; (3) Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Prevention; (4) Suicide Prevention; (5) Gun Safety; and (6) Professional Development and Training. CVP is uniquely positioned to conduct research that is authentic and meaningful because we have deep involvement in the programs that we are researching. CVP's infrastructure supports a growing interdisciplinary network of 23 Scholars, 12 Associates and 50 staff members who provide thought leadership in areas such as gun safety, community violence, intimate partner violence, aggression and bullying, and racial microaggressions. CVP collaborates closely with other CHOP entities such as PolicyLab, Clinical Futures, and the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. We seek an energetic researcher who can conduct systematic research while, over time, mentor junior faculty, fellows, and graduate students.
