The Department of Athletics is searching for a candidate to serve as Director of Social Media - Athletics, developing and implementing plans for department-wide social media use and advising the department on best strategies. This position is part of Spartan Vision, the strategic content creation and brand development team of Michigan State Athletics. As a key member of the team, you will be able to showcase your skills and creativity, while contributing to the growth and success of the organization. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage, maintain, and develop Michigan State Athletics' social media accounts across various platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
- Develop content strategy for the @MSU_Athletics accounts and select or create content for team-specific accounts that embody Michigan State Athletics' values and highlight our student-athletes.
- Maintain and regularly update department policies for social media
- Use analytics to develop plans that resonate with our followers, including selecting content (video, photo, graphics) for the main @MSU_Athletics account and team-specific accounts
- Create weekly, monthly, and yearly strategic content plans to be shared across the athletic department and with content creators
- Collaborate with various stakeholders within MSU Athletics, the University, and the governing B1G Conference/B1G network to develop a social media and messaging calendar that aligns with our brand values and supports our obligation to the conference
- Work with 22 varsity programs to create and implement strategic plans across digital and social platforms using graphics, photos, and video, integrating student-athletes, SIDs, coaches, and other stakeholders
- Work with Spartan Vision to plan content creation for each sport and coordinate sport-specific content capturing
- Provide continuing education for staff and student-athletes on social media best practices and policies
- Create and select content for social media channels, including graphics, videos, photos, and written posts
- Monitor social media platforms for trends and feedback, and provide community management by engaging with fans, student-athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders on social media
- Provide regular reports and analysis on social media metrics to Coaches, admin., SIDs, and sport social media managers that include engagement rates, follower growth, and reach for teams and units using the Sprinklr platform (monthly/yearly)
- Ensure that all social media content is on-brand, accurate, and adheres to the athletic department's policies and guidelines
- Own the managing and teaching of social media student interns, empowering them to contribute to the growth and evolution of our social media presence.

Requirements
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
- Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications, Digital Media or relevant field.
- 3 - 5 years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in managing social media, public and media relations; composing, editing and publication production; and/or marketing advertising and creative services
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent spelling and communication skills
- Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop), Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook), Project Management Tools
- PC/MAC Proficient
- Must be willing to work both standard and non-standard schedules
- Non-Remote position
