- Instructor for the Computer Engineering Technology Program
Description
The University of West Alabama (UWA) invites qualified applicants to apply for the Instructor position for the Computer Engineering Technology Program in the Division of Engineering Technology (ET).
- Teach on-campus and/or online undergraduate courses in the Division of Engineering Technology.
- Develop and update course materials, laboratory exercises, and instructional resources to align with current industry practices.
- Engage in student advisement, mentoring, and academic guidance.
- Participate in accreditation processes, including data collection, assessment, and preparation of self-study reports.
- Contribute to curriculum and program development initiatives in Computer Engineering Technology.
- Support departmental activities such as student recruitment, outreach, and community/industry engagement.
- Participate in professional development and stay current with advancements in the field.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chairperson or Dean.
- Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate and contribute to a collegial, team-oriented academic environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in one or more of these disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience teaching courses such as Programming, Network Maintenance, Network Administration, Cybersecurity, Data Structures, Database Management Systems, Embedded Systems, Project Management, or related areas.
- Proficiency in both hardware and software aspects of Computer Engineering Technology.
- Ability to teach both theoretical concepts and hands-on laboratory applications effectively in Engineering Technology-related courses.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to student success, experiential learning, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engage in program development.
Desired:
- Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABDs will be considered.
- Demonstrated success in integrating technology and applied, hands-on learning into teaching.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Three or more years of professional industry experience in the discipline.
- Experience with accreditation processes, assessment, and curriculum development.
- Familiarity with modern computing tools, networking equipment, microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), PLCs, and emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and cloud computing.
