A Week in the Life of a Lotus Employee
We are looking to support our Business Development Team by hiring a Business Development (BD) Manager.
As a BD Manager at Lotus, we have high expectations. This role will lead and oversee business development for Lotus, while project managing internal business support (including consulting project support, internal projects, etc.) and the Business Support Specialist’s time. This is a dynamic role that includes cross-team collaboration, project management, and diverse skills to manage the entire business development life cycle and relationships.
Our business model relies on professionals who don’t mind working independently, who ask additive questions, and who love to take the initiative and own tasks from start to finish. We need you to be resourceful, quickly leveraging the contacts and resources at your disposal in a strategic manner to work through day-to-day challenges. In this role, we’ll ask you to employ a broad range of skills every week. We’ll ask you to use both sides of your brain since each engagement is unique.
A BD Manager’s time will generally be split as follows:
5-15% Project Work (as needed to support consulting teams, including graphic design on deliverables)
40-50% Business Development (i.e proactive management of contacts, partners, managing proposal timelines and determinations from start to finish, writing content, building budgets, coordinating with the team, and proposal graphic design)
40-50% Team Meetings, Overhead

Collaborate with various Lotus teams to ensure comprehensive proposals.
Self-driven leadership and structure.
Oversees end-to-end team proposal management and assigns/prioritizes tasks for the BD Specialist to meet scope, schedule, and quality targets.
Co-creates a vision for BD to continuously improve and expand, as appropriate, into new markets and business lines. As well as continuous quality proposals, content revamps, and improved budget estimate improvements over time.
Leads proposal development from start to finish, including planning, execution, budgeting, and compliance management.
Completes light market analysis and manages team and business certifications / registrations.
Works with project leads to shape scopes, staffing plans, and preliminary budgets that balance client needs, feasibility, and profitability.
Stewards the Lotus brand by maintaining voice, visuals, and guidelines across all channels and materials, ensuring consistency and quality.
Proactively builds and manages a pipeline by tracking historical leads, identifying opportunities, and triaging inbound requests to qualify, prioritize, and convert opportunities.
Designs and implements operational strategies and SOPs that clarify roles, reduce bottlenecks, and improve repeatability and quality for BD team.
Coordinates marketing campaigns, website/content updates, and conference participation (speaking, booths, sponsorships) with cross-team collaboration, ensuring messaging aligns with business goals.
Drives internal BD initiatives to completion by setting milestones, developing project plans, aligning stakeholders, and removing blockers for on-time delivery.
Identifies and executes BD process improvements that boost operational efficiency, automate routine steps, and enhance data management.
Directs the graphic design of marketing materials and client-facing deliverables, translating complex information into clear, polished visuals and templates.
Helps lead and implement the Accessibility Standards and Guidelines in Colorado and other communities we work in.
Relationship focus.
Manages and coaches direct reports through regular 1:1s, feedback, and goal setting, fostering accountability and growth.
Assesses skills and capacity of direct reports, creating targeted development plans, training recommendations, and growth opportunities.
Cultivates strong relationships with clients and subcontractors, ensuring clear expectations, smooth collaboration, and repeat work.
Proactively creates new partnerships with organizations that align with Lotus values.
Maintains external communications (newsletters, announcements, social posts, etc.) to elevate Lotus visibility and thought leadership.
Fosters cross-team collaboration and working with different working styles.
Provides hands-on support to consulting teams as needed—research, QA/QC, stakeholder materials, etc. —to keep projects on track.

Demonstrated expertise in accessibility requirements for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations across multiple programs including the GoogleSuite, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe, Canva and additional software's or programs focused on accessibility.

Start Date: Ideally December 2025
Compensation and Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience with a range of $75,000-105,000. This range is based on a 40-hour workweek. We highly value work-life balance and rarely work more than 40 hours per week.
A full-time employee (30+ hours per week) will be eligible to participate in Lotus’ medical and dental plans, limited life insurance, wellness stipend, PTO, sick leave, and matching 401K (up to 3%). A part-time employee (less than 30 hours per week) is eligible for the matching 401k (up to 3%) and paid sick leave.
Lotus observes 10 holidays for full-time employees and offers a flexible work schedule* with a flexible PTO that allows employees to own their work-life balance. Instead of tracking PTO, employees are assigned quarterly target hours that include 40 working hours per week with 15 suggested vacation days and 10 holidays per year - employees are not limited to that suggested time off but are responsible for meeting their targets.
*A limitation to the flexible work schedule requires that meetings with colleagues and clients should only take place during normal working hours.
Additional benefits include: 48 hours sick leave, volunteer and nonprofit board time up to 30 hours per year, annual professional development budget, employee donation matches, paid parental leave, and a dog-friendly office.
Location and Schedule
This position can be a hybrid or fully remote role. Our office in Denver is located at Steno, 1627 Vine St. near City Park. Denver-based is preferred, however Lotus will consider a fully remote candidate based on a proven track record of successfully working independently.
This is a full time role, average 40 hours per week. While we aim to be flexible for staff to manage their own schedules, the BD Manager is expected to only engage with the team and clients during regular business hours 9:00-5:00 PM MT.
